Kuruma Dansu


Details:

Japanese Kuruma dansu in two sections and constructed with Keyaki (Japanese Elm) frame with Kiri (Paulownia) interiors and Hinoki (Cypress) sides, back and top. The front is ornamented with heavy wrought iron floral lock plates and corner pieces and square Kakute handles. Typical of the Sakata region.

Ex John Conway Collection. John Conway was professor emeritus in theatrical design at The University of Washington. He was a Fulbright scholar studying in Japan in 1931 when this chest was purchased.
